Street Life Siesta: The Art of Doing Absolutely Nothing in Riyadh

Sometimes the most charismatic locals aren’t people at all — they’re cats. And this one? Iconic. I stumbled upon this stretched-out masterpiece on a blazing hot afternoon in Riyadh, where the streets shimmered with heat and even time seemed to slow down. While I was sweating through my shirt and wondering if coffee was a bad idea (spoiler: it wasn’t), this feline had fully committed to the art of doing nothing — and doing it with style.

Sprawled out across a dusty red windowsill like a puddle of fur, legs dramatically draped and tail giving just the right amount of flair, this cat didn’t just rest — it posed. Its only concern? Whether the sunbeam would last long enough for a nap encore.

There’s something magical about cats in the Middle East — semi-feral but deeply woven into the rhythm of the city, always finding the coolest, shadiest, or most scenic corners to perch, lounge, or reign from. I couldn’t help but smile (and quietly envy its nonchalance).
